1.
Tell us your full name, where you live and
what you do …
My name is Benjamin Oliver Selfe. I live in
Bristol. I do all sorts of things, many of
which on a regular basis.
| 2. |
a)
if you have a job – why do you
do what you do?
b) if you are studying – what
do you want to do when you finish? |
a) NA
b) Celebrate. If I get the required grades
in this year’s A level exams I will,
hopefully, be going to Sheffield university
to do Biblical studies (3 year degree), then
do Candidate Essential, then go to the William
Booth College to train for Salvation Army
Officership. 3.
What are you passionate about?
Meatball Marinara on white bread with TLC
and BBQ sauce from Subway. And Dr Pepper!!!
I am also passionate about Jesus (in general).
My particular Christian passions (if I’m
allowed to pick) are the bible and children
- I love seeing and aiding a child’s
spiritual growth, as well as musical growth,
academic growth etc. (which I witness through
running youth bible study and singing company
at my corps/ church). I also deeply respect
and value relationships, they’re much
more important than lectures, band practice
and subway, however all these have their place.
4. Something that
has made a major impact on your life is …?
My gender, I’d hate to have to wee sat
down, I’ve got a bad enough back as
it is. My testimony is not that I’ve
had a huge exciting conversion or I’d
come back from the dead or anything but since
I was a little boy, even if I didn’t
really know it fully then, I know that I was
in God’s hands all the time, in a secular
school I knew I was different and although
I wasn’t under any pressure I always
had the support & guidance of God. He
was there waiting for me to make all the decisions,
when I decided to give my life to him and
become a senior soldier, that was the point
I recognised God’s constant presence,
that he was always with me waiting upon my
decision and my reply to his whisper of a
call. 5. In
less than 20 words, what is the meaning of
life?
To be God’s and live his will. To be
yourself (or your Selfe in my case) and live
your life, don’t get stressed.
6. Why do you want to
write for us?
I would love to write for you because I have
no real friends to talk to, but mainly because
I love to give my testimony and share my thoughts
but I always get told off at the army for
taking too long in testimony time during the
meeting, people say things like “I didn’t
realise we were having 2 sermons tonight”
and slightly less original “you talk
to much” and “get your hair cut”.
When I was just a little boy, I asked my mother
what will I be?! I wanted to be an author
because I loved, and still love, to use my
imagination. People at school always used
to ask to hear my short stories and poems
etc. at the end of literacy/ English lessons.
However I’ve abandoned that to become
an officer; however I wouldn’t mind
writing Jesus books about Christianity etc.
Also the writing wagon sounds fab! |
