Amidst
all the rest and relaxation of the summer,
God’s heart is still fervently beating
for our generation. Here, we unravel a few
summer prayer ideas for you and your friends
…
Naming Attributes:
Take one sheet of notebook paper per person.
Turn the paper sideways (landscape style).
Fold the paper into as many columns as you
have letters in your first name. At the top
of each column put the respective letter of
your name.
Form a circle and hand your paper to the person
to your right. Have them write down an attribute
of God that starts with one of those letters
(under that respective letter). They can use
any letter of your name. Pass the sheet on
to the next person to the right and have them
do the same thing with one of the other letters
of your name. Keep passing the papers around
until each name has at least two or three
attributes under each letter. Spend the rest
of the time in praise to God for his attributes
using your sheets. Take the paper home and
pin it up in your room to remind you that
these attributes of God are connected to you.
Castles in the sand:
A prayer of repentance. Build a sand castle
near the water’s edge before the tide
turns and starts to come in. Make it as large
or as small as you wish but decorate the castle
with rocks. Allow each rock to resemble something
that you want to confess to Jesus. When the
sand castle is complete sit back and allow
the sea to wash over the castle and break
down the walls and wash the stones away. Praise
God for his grace that is wider and deeper
than the seas.
Creation Praise:
Equip each person with a small bag/bucket,
a 3 x 5 card, pencil and Bible. Have everyone
go outside and find 10 things that fit into
the bag/bucket that remind them of God. Have
them write down each item on the 3 x 5 card.
Next find a Bible verse that can be related
to their item and write it down on the card.
Come back together and relate what you have
found. Then take the time to praise God for
the things you have shared.
Wall Building:
Send everyone outside in different directions.
Have them find 10 different rocks. They can
be different sizes, types, or colors. Come
back together and read Joshua 3:1 - 4:7. Joshua
had the children of Israel build an altar
of remembrance. In an attitude of prayer have
each person bring one rock at a time and place
it down in the center of the group to create
an altar. Each time they place a rock down
they say should one thing that they are thankful
for. If necessary, use a can or two of brown
Playdoh to stick the rocks together.
Draw a poem:
Sit down with pen and paper and write
three or four lines of poetry. It doesn’t
have to rhyme, but through the words, express
either something about God’s creation
that you love, where you are with God or what
it is about your king that you love. Then
take a fresh sheet and write out your poem
neatly and decorate the paper. Place it on
your wall to remind you of where you are heading
with God. |
