YOU do the interview: Preparing to Serve – Part One
What do you think? - Tell us what you think here
Mark and Emma Scott are two of the latest students to be welcomed into William Booth College - the ‘University of the Salvation Army’. They have joined 19 other residential people and 6 long distance learners starting out on the journey to become Salvation Army Officers and they will be answering some of YOUR questions over the next few weeks.

College Cool

For Salvationists, officership is no longer the only available route into ministry. The Salvation Army, and many other Christian organisations, now offer a huge variety of exciting and unusual training courses designed to equip people with new skills and challenges surrounding the Christian faith.

So does this mean that officership is going out of fashion? Is it cool to go to the college?

Emma: Before attending the training college I thought that it was probably the least cool place to go! In fact when God called me into it initially I said no! The question for me was whether I was going to obey God’s calling on my life regardless of whether I wanted to at the time or not. Now however it is very cool…it’s been a bit odd getting used to wearing uniform every day but even this most days is very relaxed. We’ve only been here 7 weeks and already I have met the most amazing people, had fantastic teaching and made friends that I know will last my lifetime. Officership is not an easy option, particularly when there is a lot to give up, but if God has called you to it He will provide you with the people to make it possible.

Mark: I think it’s good to have options for officership training because it gives more people the opportunity to follow God’s calling. Although we are part of a small session (group) everyone is great - and actually we have the youngest average age in 10 years with 10 of us in the session under 30! London is a great place to train with lots to do and the training college community is very supportive.
It’s YOUR chance to jump onto interview panel. Send your questions for Mark and Emma about officership to gemma.bonner@salvationarmy.org.uk and keep your eyes peeled for your questions online the week after next!
