| What’s
our vocation? What’s our purpose?
Where are we going? What course should
we be taking? What job should we be
doing? How do we know if this is the
right course of action? Why does God
seem to be silent? What have we achieved?
Considering
our vocation in life is a big issue.
It can feel like the questions are
endless and the answers are few. For
some people, they ‘just know’
what to do; some haven’t got
a clue and others thought they did
and then ended up doing something
entirely different!
Perhaps you can see
yourself somewhere in that picture.
Yet in the midst of it all, the words
of Christ remind us of the most important
vocation of all: ‘Love God’
and ‘Love your neighbour, as
ourselves’.
In a world where
all sorts of things compete for our
attention and time, Christ’s
challenge should be the foundation
for our lives. It is our true vocation,
from which all things flow.
Loving God with all
our heart, soul, mind and strength,
transforms our worship, our priorities
and our relationships with others.
Whether it be through conversations
with friends; how we treat people
at school, work or home; our involvement
in the local community, or the action
we take to fight injustice in our
world; everything becomes an opportunity
for praise and service. How we love
others, is how we love God.
As you read these
words, take time to reflect on where
your focus is. Life’s choices
may be plentiful, or may be few, but
the vocation of pursuing God is a
constant challenge and choice. Take
time to immerse yourself in these
words call of Christ. Where will he
lead you today? |
