SALVageID
Got a new mobile phone recently?
What happened to your old one?
Did you know that only 3% of consumers recycle their old and unwanted handsets* but would that percentage be higher if people knew that recycling old mobile phones could save lives?
The Salvation Army's International Development department can take your old and unwanted mobile phones and use them to improve the lives of people living in poverty and deprivation.
SALVageID is a mobile phone recycling scheme set up by The Salvation Army to raise funds from the recycling of unwanted mobile phones to support the poverty alleviation and community development work carried out all over the world.
Figures show that 74m mobile phones are in circulation in the UK**, and if all of those were recycled when they were finished with it could provide £296m worth of aid.
On average, each mobile phone donated to SALVageID is worth £4. Donating three mobile phones can therefore enable The Salvation Army to give a family a clean water supply for life; donating five will resource a team to educate and campaign against human trafficking; while 40 can provide a low income group with a financial loan to start their own business. If you recycle with your friends or work colleagues, 175 old mobile phones could fund the entire cost of building of a well in India.
