Norwich Pottergate Arc
The Salvation Army Pottergate ARC Social Service Centre28 Pottergate, Norwich, Norfolk. NR2 1DX
Pottergate ARC, run by The Salvation Army, is a professional day centre for homeless and vulnerable people.
The ARC is run by a friendly group of staff, volunteers, and has it's own Chaplain. It is a drop-in service, so no appointment is necessary. Staff are always available for a friendly chat about problems and can give direct help, information and advocacy on a variety of issues.
We are an Advice and Refreshment Centre for roughsleepers, homeless and vulnerable people. Anyone over the age of 16 is welcome to use the centre to obtain food, shelter, hygiene services (hot shower), sleeping bags and clothing. We keep a small stock of food for anyone undergoing extreme financial difficulty, and a food parcel can be issued by referral or assessment.
REFRESHMENTS Tea and coffee is freely available during the day. Breakfast is served 8am to 10am. and lunch from 12.30 to 1.15 and these meals are low cost. There is a general drop in from 10.00 until 12.00 and during the afternoons of Monday, Wednesday and Thursday from 2.00 to 4.00pm.

We have recently introduced some meal vouchers which are on sale at The Salvation Army in the City, the flower stall in the middle of Gentlemans Walk and Mr. News on Castle Meadow. These can be bought by anyone for £2.00 and given to someone in need. The voucher can be redeemed at The ARC for either a cooked breakfast or a two course lunch.
MOVING FORWARD TOGETHER We have recently extended our service and built a learning resource room offering clients direct internet access. Here our clients can learn basic Numeracy and literacy skills, and take advantage of e-learning courses. We have incorporated a Salvation Army Employment Plus Centre into this room so that our clients can be fully supported in their job seeking. Help is available throughout the whole process from identifying training required, writing a CV, getting and filling in application forms and practicing interview techniques.
Clients have access to other voluntary and statutory agencies who can give practical and relevant support to our clients. We are able to refer to specialist agencies for help with medical, drug, alcohol and gambling dependencies, tenancy support needs and mental health issues. These agencies provide an in-reach service to The ARC, and can be readily contacted at other times.
