Jesus wants me for a sunbeam,To shine for Him each day;In every way try to please Him,At home, at school, at play.
Words: Nellie Talbot Music: Edwin O Excell
Children have the right to a place to call home. The right to a place to go to school. The right to a place to play. But children are sometimes denied these basic rights.
This is Abnee. She is from Bangladesh. Life has not been easy for this girl. Her father became paralysed and her mother was often away for many weeks. Her brother sold her for $300 because her family needed money. She was just 13 years old. She has now lived in a brothel for over a year.
In an average day she has to see eight men and earns about $7. Half her money goes on food and rent. But if she is unwell and can't go to work the rent still has to be paid and her debt gets bigger. Abnee now owes $80. She says that sometimes she is treated very badly and is beaten.
Kay was first trafficked at the age of 13. It was her sister that sold her to traffickers. Then she was sold again, this time to some men in Italy. However, the police found her and she was returned to her home country in Eastern Europe. She was home for only four days before her father sold her again, this time to another group of traffickers. They prostituted her in Italy and France before bringing her to the United Kingdom. She has now been rescued by a project in the UK.
For Kay, there is hope.
God of mercy, hear our cry, Turn Your hand today.Bring relief from their pain,Be their comfort. And every day they're given breath,Give them strength to live. And as their weary bodies fail,Fighting is over, flesh gives way.Be their light to guide them home.

We have heard about the hundreds and thousands of women and children who have been trafficked. We have heard the painful words of those who have been abused.
But where there is darkness, there can be light; where there is unhappiness, there can be the hope of happiness.
Prevention and protection can reduce the misery caused by trafficking. Care and compassion can shine light into the lives of those at risk.
Hope can shine into even the darkest situations. What you do in your corner of the world can make a difference. Prevent women and children being trafficked. Protect those rescued from the traffickers. If you would like to financially support The Salvation Army's anti-trafficking programmes simply donate online.
