11 March 2010 The Salvation Army assists at major London fire

The
Salvation Army’s emergency response vehicle for central London was called
out at 5am Thursday 11th March to help emergency services personnel
at a major fire in Shoreditch.
Clapton
Salvation Army minister Captain Karl Gray and London Central Divisional
Community Services
Officer Major Joan Cooper arrived at the scene just after
6am where 25 engines and 100 firefighters were tackling a fire in Tabernacle
Street, close to Liverpool Street station.
The
Salvation Army provided tea, coffee, and sandwiches to firefighters, police,
ambulance workers and other members of the emergency services.

Two
firefighters from Euston, who were collecting drinks for their colleagues,
expressed their appreciation of The Salvation Army’s service:
‘It’s superb,
fantastic. You give up your own time to help us out. For the firefighters who
arrive initially here, it’s something for them after working so
hard.’
The
Salvation Army later sent a second team to run the vehicle to continue to
provide
food and drinks to people on site. London Fire Brigade expected to be dealing
with the incident for the rest of the day.
