For many years The Salvation Army has offered a variety of services to military garrisons both in Germany and the United Kingdom. Over the last few years our services have been increasingly called upon to provide non-alcoholic leisure facilties in military training establishments where there are younger military personnel who are not permitted to drink.
Our non-alcoholic services consist of either full restaurant or coffee snack bar dependent on need. These units are normally part of a club setting with all or some of the following facilities: games room with both table and computer games, TV/video room (some with satellite TV), cybercafé, quiet room, library.
If required the service will also include the sale of national newspapers, toiletries and any items other than food that are not readily available.
In camps where there is a large vehicle training/maintenance area, firing ranges or training areas that are some distance from refreshments facilities,
we provide a mobile canteen service. This is also available for special sports functions, bonfire night etc, if required within or away from the camp.
We also operate and manage children's groups and activities such as creches, mothers and toddler groups, after school clubs in response to local need.
Our vehicles displaying the Red Shield respond to national and local emergencies when requested by the Police/Fire Brigade to provide refreshments for those on duty and on special occasions to the public.
During times of war and conflict the Red Shield services support the families left behind at the base practically and spiritually.
